About Rings Mosaic
Rings returns to the decorative world of the coffered ceiling, but shifts the idea from architecture into textiles. Imagine the formal geometry overhead translated into a rug or patterned carpet. The reference becomes softer and less architectural, while retaining something of the order and ceremony of its source.
Decorative ideas have always moved freely between disciplines. Motifs migrate from buildings into textiles, ceramics and furniture, changing character as they encounter different materials. A ceiling can inspire a carpet, which can then find another life in mosaic. Each translation creates a little distance from the original, allowing the pattern to develop its own identity.
Carpets and decorative ceilings also share a surprising amount of common ground. Both take a large uninterrupted plane and organise it through pattern. Borders, compartments and repeated motifs establish a framework, giving decoration a sense of purpose rather than allowing it to drift.
Rings occupies the territory between those traditions. There is a suggestion of the formality found in historic interiors, tempered by the familiarity and warmth associated with textiles. The references remain deliberately loose. This is not about reproducing a particular ceiling or carpet, but borrowing the principles that make both so satisfying.
