About Wave Mosaic

Wave began with colour rather than geometry. Ombré creates movement without drawing a line, simply allowing one tone to pass gradually into another. I wanted to explore whether that same sense of transition could be built into mosaic.

There is an appealing contradiction in doing this with such a regimented material. Wave takes that limitation and makes it part of the idea. Light and dark tones gather, disperse and return, creating broad passages of colour across the surface. The transitions are deliberately incremental. Individual tesserae remain visible, yet the eye begins to connect them into something softer and less defined.

This shifts the role of pattern. There is no motif to identify and no historical reference to decode. Instead, the composition is about density and tone. Darker areas seem to carry more weight, while paler sections allow the surface to recede. The movement exists somewhere between the two.

Wave is ultimately an experiment in making something fluid from something fixed. The grid remains resolutely in place, but colour encourages the eye to move beyond it.
