Stitch Wallpaper
Stitch takes the familiar language of woven pattern and gives it room to grow. What might once have been a small repeated detail within a textile becomes a bold piece of geometry, enlarged until the pattern begins to have an architectural presence of its own.
The connection to fabric remains, although not always obviously. There are suggestions of chevrons, interlocking threads and repeated woven structures, but these have been simplified and exaggerated rather than faithfully reproduced. At this scale, their origins become less important. What remains is the graphic pleasure of lines meeting, changing direction and continuing elsewhere.
There is something wonderfully confident about enlarging a small pattern. Details that might disappear into the texture of cloth become impossible to ignore. A tiny change of direction becomes a sweeping diagonal; a repeated stitch becomes a rhythm across an entire wall. The intimacy of textile pattern turns into something much more assertive.
Yet the patterns retain a sense of connection. No element really operates alone. Shapes rely on their neighbours, lines continue beyond their apparent boundaries and repetition gradually pulls everything together. That underlying structure gives Stitch its family resemblance, even when individual designs take quite different directions.
I like the ambiguity that comes with the change in scale. From one viewpoint there is still something recognisably textile-like about the patterns. From another, they could belong to graphics, architecture or any number of twentieth-century decorative surfaces. The reference has become loose enough to allow other associations in.
Stitch and Stitch Mini therefore share the same visual ancestry but speak at very different volumes. Mini condenses its geometry until it approaches texture. Stitch does the opposite, allowing the woven idea to expand until it becomes graphic, generous and unmistakably part of the wall.
