About Screen Stone Mosaic

Screen looks towards the architectural screens of tropical modernism, where dividing a space rarely meant sealing it completely. Air, shade and glimpses beyond all had a part to play.

These screens often had a wonderful directness. Repeated concrete or ceramic blocks could temper sunlight, encourage ventilation and establish privacy. Yet practical necessity frequently produced some of the architecture’s most memorable decoration.

Across warmer climates, the screen became an architectural language in its own right. Geometry could remain simple because repetition did the rest. Form and function sat together comfortably, without much need to separate the two.

Screen draws on that easy relationship. Its rhythm recalls perforated walls and brise-soleil, particularly those mid-century buildings where climate helped shape their character.

There is a certain pleasure in taking an idea associated with openness and giving it the solidity of stone. The reference remains architectural, but the pattern keeps things light.
