About Diamond Mosaic
Diamond looks back to the argyle knits that seemed unavoidable during the 1980s. Once associated with traditional Scottish hosiery and golf clothing, the pattern found a much broader audience. Suddenly, diamonds belonged everywhere from the golf course to the power lunch.
That shift is part of Diamond’s starting point. Argyle carried an unusual mixture of tradition and fashion. It could appear conservative or conspicuous, depending on its colours and the person wearing it. During the 1980s, that contradiction became particularly pronounced. Heritage dressing collided with a decade that rarely resisted making things bigger or brighter.
Translating the idea into round mosaic takes it away from clothing while keeping the reference recognisable. The familiar geometry remains, but the individual circles give its knitted ancestry a subtle nod.
Diamond enjoys the nostalgia without treating it too seriously. There is a touch of the Pringle jumper about it, along with golf clubs, oversized tailoring and expense-account lunches. The reference may come from knitwear, but the pattern has travelled rather well.
