Patches steps away from the formality of the more geometric patterns in the collection. The starting point was something looser: torn pieces of fabric attached as repairs.

Traditional patching rarely follows a perfect plan. A piece covers a tear because it fits, another arrives later, and gradually those interventions accumulate. Their placement records necessity rather than a predetermined composition.

That informality gave Patches its direction. I wanted to capture the character of something assembled without obvious rules, while still creating a repeatable pattern. The two ideas pull against each other. One suggests accident, while the other requires order.

Textiles have a long tradition of finding decoration through repair. Patches, joins and alterations can become part of an object’s character rather than something to disguise.

Patches borrows that freedom. Beneath the apparent randomness sits a simple repeat, doing just enough to hold everything together.
