About Botanic Mosaic
Botanic brings something altogether softer to the collection. Its leafy, seaweed-like forms wander across the surface, creating a pattern that feels organic, generous and slightly unexpected.
There is still geometry here, but it has loosened its grip. Branches curl away from one another before meeting again elsewhere, while smaller offshoots fill the spaces between. The repeat remains surprisingly difficult to spot. Instead, the pattern seems to keep growing, which gives larger surfaces a lovely sense of continuity.
The inspiration sits somewhere between land and water. Some shapes resemble leaves or delicate stems. Others have the drifting quality of seaweed. Keeping that reference ambiguous makes Botanic more interesting. It suggests the natural world without turning into a botanical illustration.
There is also something rather appealing about creating these fluid forms from tiny square pieces of glass. The 10mm tesserae give every curve a slightly pixelated edge, bringing a crispness to what might otherwise become overly soft. Glossy colour adds richness, while the fine surface texture keeps the glass from feeling too perfect.
Colour can take Botanic in very different directions. Greens make it feel lush and leafy, while blues bring out its aquatic character. More unusual combinations loosen the connection with nature altogether, leaving the shapes to become simply pattern.
Among the more geometric Teatro designs, Botanic provides a welcome change of pace. It is decorative without formality and organic without becoming literal. Most importantly, it has a freedom that feels particularly enjoyable in mosaic.
