About Connection Chandalier

Chandalier started with the classic scallop, but I wanted to take it somewhere a little more decorative. Giving the curve shoulders changed its character completely.

It reminded me of the profiles found in traditional silverware. Candelabras and chandeliers often use these stepped curves, particularly where one element narrows into another. They have a formality to them, but also a softness that stops the decoration feeling rigid.

Translating that idea into flat porcelain strips away all the volume and ornament. What remains is simply the outline, almost like the silhouette of something much more elaborate.

I like that reduction. An object once shaped in silver, polished and decorated becomes a straightforward piece of geometry. The reference survives, although most of its original detail has disappeared.

There is also a slight theatrical quality to Chandalier. It carries a memory of dining rooms, silver candlesticks and decorative lighting without trying to recreate any of them.

It takes that familiar decorative language and flattens it completely. What remains feels lighter, simpler and surprisingly graphic.
