About Connection Kite
Kite continues the fascination with mid century metalwork that runs through several Connection designs. Screens, balustrades and gates often turned very simple geometry into an unexpectedly decorative part of a building.
These details rarely needed much embellishment. Their character came from proportion and repetition, with a small geometric element providing everything needed for a much larger composition.
Kite takes its cue from the angular forms found in these metal frameworks. There is an economy to them that I find particularly attractive. A few straight lines can suggest far more than their simplicity should really allow.
It is also a reminder that pattern in mid century architecture was not always applied as decoration. Often it grew naturally from something functional. A security screen or balustrade could become one of the most memorable details in the building.
That thinking sits comfortably within Connection. Kite takes the language of those everyday architectural elements and moves it into porcelain.
The source is modest, but that is really the point. Some of the best patterns are already around us, quietly doing another job.
