About Tribuna Mosaic

The Romans certainly knew how to make a floor interesting. Their love of geometry gave us some wonderfully elaborate mosaics, where simple arrangements of squares and lines could develop into extraordinary decorative compositions.

Tribuna borrows a little of that Roman thinking, taking a formal geometric framework and introducing a more ornamental character. The two approaches have always worked well together. Geometry brings a sense of order, while ornament adds richness, detail and a little extravagance.

I like the idea of combining these different personalities. The more formal elements give Tribuna its structure, while the ornament brings a certain warmth and exuberance.

It has its roots in classical decoration, but the combination feels surprisingly contemporary. A little Roman discipline, with plenty of room for decorative expression.
