About Mayan Gold Mosaic
Mayan looks back to the geometric decoration of ancient Mesoamerica, where repeated forms appeared across architecture, stone carving and textiles. Much of that work feels remarkably graphic, despite belonging to cultures far removed from modern design.
The original pattern plays with that visual language rather than reproducing a particular historical motif. Stepped forms and repeated lines carry the reference, while the regular mosaic grid brings its own discipline.
Gold adds another connection to the past. Precious metals held enormous cultural importance across pre-Columbian societies, valued for ceremony and symbolism rather than simply wealth. Alongside stone, it feels entirely natural rather than decorative for decoration’s sake.
Mayan brings those two ancient materials into a contemporary pattern. Stone provides the weight of the original architectural reference, while gold brings warmth and richness to its strong geometric language.
