The Material
There is something particularly appealing about working at such a small scale.
At just 4.8mm, Burano takes the familiar square mosaic and reduces it to something almost pixel-like. Thousands of tiny tesserae come together, turning a simple piece of glass into colour, pattern and intricate graphic detail.
That scale opens up an extraordinary amount of creative freedom.
Lines can wander, curves can develop and complex motifs can emerge from the smallest shifts in colour. From across a room, the individual pieces disappear into the composition. Move closer and the construction reveals itself, tessera by tessera.

Burano uses opaque sintered glass, a material particularly good at carrying rich, saturated colour. Its glossy surface gives those colours additional depth, while the tiny format keeps even stronger combinations surprisingly refined.
This is where Burano becomes particularly interesting.
Colour can make it joyful, bright and expressive. Softer combinations create an entirely different character, with gentle tonal changes and an almost textile-like richness. The same tiny square can move comfortably between graphic clarity and decorative intricacy.
There is also something rather beautiful about the simplicity of the material itself. Every pattern starts with exactly the same modest component: a 4.8mm square of glass.
Nothing changes except its relationship with the pieces around it. Yet through repetition, colour and placement, those tiny squares can become stripes, geometry, ornament or something far more elaborate. The possibilities seem almost disproportionate to the size of the material.
