About Brocade Mosaic

Brocade begins with the pleasure of richly woven cloth. Decorative textiles have always carried an extraordinary density of pattern, where colour, ornament and repetition are woven together so completely that the surface seems to shimmer with detail. This mosaic asks what happens when that same richness is translated into glass.

At just 4.8mm, the tesserae become almost thread-like, allowing intricate motifs to emerge with remarkable delicacy. Glass loses some of its expected crispness and begins to behave more like fabric, building softness through countless tiny pieces rather than continuous lines.

The pattern is not borrowed from a particular brocade. Instead, it captures the qualities that make those textiles enduringly appealing: generous ornament, layered rhythm and the confidence to let decoration occupy an entire surface. There is complexity here, but it feels composed rather than elaborate.

This is where Brocade feels contemporary. It doesn’t revive a historic interior; it borrows an attitude towards decoration. The material has changed, the scale has shifted and the pattern belongs to mosaic, yet the pleasure of living with richly detailed surfaces remains exactly the same.
