About Stitch Cricket

Fabric construction has found its way into many of my patterns. Weaving and knitting offer an extraordinary library of ideas. Often, the most interesting part lies beneath the surface.

Cricket came from looking at a familiar woven structure and wondering what remained once the fabric disappeared. The interlocking arrangement felt surprisingly complete on its own.

There is a certain pleasure in taking something associated with cloth and removing all its softness. What once belonged to threads can become entirely graphic, without losing the memory of where it came from.

Woven patterns feel familiar because they surround us from an early age. We encounter them in clothes, blankets, upholstery and countless everyday textiles. Eventually, their structures become part of a visual language we recognise almost instinctively.

Cricket plays with that familiarity. It borrows from weaving without trying to imitate fabric. Instead, the structure gets a new material and a different scale.

Porcelain could hardly be further from thread, which makes the translation more interesting. Yet somehow, the woven character survives.
