About Duomo Facade
Duomo Facade grew from the same architectural idea as Duomo, but takes more from the building around those decorative columns. The entrance becomes broader, deeper and more elaborate.
Italian cathedrals often build this sense of depth gradually. Columns sit within arches, mouldings follow one another, and one architectural detail seems to lead naturally into the next. Together, they give the façade a richness that no single element could achieve.
That layering became the starting point for Duomo Facade. Rather than isolating the column, the design looks at how these elements gather together. There is a greater sense of ceremony to it, which feels appropriate to the architecture behind the idea.
I like the way cathedral entrances announce themselves without relying on one grand gesture. Their presence comes from accumulation. Repeated forms, changes in depth and small variations gradually build something much larger.
Duomo Facade carries a little of that grandeur into a completely different scale. The architecture has disappeared, but its sense of layering remains.
It feels closely related to Duomo, although it has a more elaborate character. One looks at the detail; the other steps back and takes in more of the façade.
