Colour can become bold and playful, with contrasting pieces creating clear graphic rhythms across a surface. Alternatively, closely related tones produce something altogether quieter. Pale neutrals, muted colours and subtle tonal shifts can give the same material a soft, almost luxurious quality.

Scale also changes how we experience it. Individual pieces remain clearly visible at close range, revealing the slight softness of their edges. Viewed across a larger surface, those pieces merge into pattern, colour and movement.

My designs use this relationship deliberately. A repeating mosaic sheet becomes the building block for a much larger composition. Geometry continues beyond the boundaries of each sheet, allowing relatively simple arrangements to develop into more complex patterns.

Digital drawing makes it possible to explore these relationships quickly. Colour combinations can change, patterns can rotate and individual elements can shift position. Yet the physical character of the glass always brings something back that the screen cannot reproduce.

That is where sintered glass becomes particularly compelling. Precision and softness exist together. Geometry provides structure, while colour gives the material its personality.

It can be exuberant or restrained, playful or quietly luxurious.

Few materials move between those different moods quite so comfortably.
